Suffering from Stiff Back?

In spite of having a comfortable night’s sleep many a time you might wake up with a stiff back. This has nothing to do with your mattress or your sleeping posture; there is a high chance that the offender is your office chair.

What Causes Stiff Back?

On an average working day you spend more than six hours sitting on your office chair. Remaining sedentary for long hours can put pressure on your lower back, which is also known as the lumbar region. This region of the spine has five vertebrae, making it the most mobile part of the back bone. Lumber has a natural curve that supports the muscles and in turn reduces the stress on the backbone. Long hours of sitting can put pressure to the lumbar region, which can lead to stiffness in the muscles.

How To Prevent Stiff Back?

While seated make sure you are following the right sitting posture. Here are a few healthy practices that can keep stiff back at bay:

  • To avoid stress on the lumber area keep your feet flat on the floor and your knees should be at the same level as your hips.
  • When sitting back in the chair, the back support angle should be up to 90 degrees or just past 90 degrees. Proper back support prevents slouching and reduces the pressure on your lumbar region.
  • The armrests should be adjusted in such a way that the arms should be slightly lifted at the shoulders for providing proper support at the elbow and reducing pressure on the shoulders.
  • Your laptop or computer screen should be right in front of your eyes so that you don’t slouch to view the screen. Slouching can strain your neck and shoulder muscles.

Can Changing Office Chair Help?

A comfortable office chair can boost your productivity and also keep you healthy and happy. Ergonomic chairs come with easy adjustable features that remain exactly the same way you are comfortable with. Whenever you need a change you can easily make the adjustment by just turning a few levers here and there. Your office chair should be comfortable, durable and flexible to support versatile sitting postures.

If the problem of stiff back still persists then you should take professional help of a physiotherapist or an expert chiropractor. With therapy and by maintaining healthy sitting posture, you can be cured quickly. Investing in a right chair can advance your recovery. Go ahead and make the right choice!
